Over the summer, I was contacted by a “NYC Journalist” or rather, a writer for Parents magazine who lives in Boston and saw my post about Wine: Mom’s Drink of Choice and thought she could get some good info from me for her own story. Funny how that works. I gave her my take on how more moms seem to relax with a glass of wine or a cocktail in front of their children these days. I mentioned in my post how Jenny made me (and herself of course) a mojito one evening while our kids were playing. I never once mentioned in my blog or to this woman that this is a re-occuring event or that we got wasted and let our children run wild. Yet, that is what it appears to be. I had no idea about the tone of this article or how big or little involvement I’d have in the story. In fact, I heard nothing more about it except for a brief email to fact check one day and then was told it would be in December’s issue.
My husband compares this to what it must be like to be a celebrity or a reality tv star. They take a snipit of your life and when it’s seen out of context, it gets totally blown out of proportion…..or people just interpret it the way that they want to, which is usually totally off base. I honestly find it comical. I seriously rarely drink. And by rarely, I mean a couple of times a month, if that. I find nothing at all wrong with drinking more than that, I just don’t.
I did get some snide remarks from a select few, but most people just think it’s pretty cool that my name was in a national magazine. That’s how I feel. However, it would have been even cooler to have mentioned Famojo or one of my other websites, like Mama Meetup, where moms meet at the park for Patron.
Hey… Can I come to the Patron parties??
